Well, it has been a wee while since my last visit to Kina. Since I last posted, there have been a few changes. The main one being - I am studying the National Certificate in Mental Health and Addiction! go figure, my family all have their addictions (granted I do to - it's called coffee haha) but I decide to study addictions.... I must be nuts... live with addict parents as a child, and now I'm looking at a career in helping addicts (my main goal is to end up working with the families).
The course itself has been great - very comforting but in a good way. It is designed to bring up emotional stuff for people during study, so you deal with it then. I'm on term break now and then we get into elective courses, which is when I’m expecting to be confronted the most. But I'll get there. My dad is still drinking - I've had 3 drunken calls from him this week - two of his sisters are away (overseas) at the moment. It scares the crap outta me because I'm so far away from him and those that are near by aren't checking up on him and keep their distance if he's been drinking, sigh….
Hi Rena, I work in the addiction sector doing family work. We need more people like you, personal experience & the courage to undertake your own journey to heal, get educated and help families heal. Wishing you success in your studies, and ways to stay engaged with your family that don't impact negatively on you.
